This one was for my wife. I saved the original Arai neck after building the Vox Arai bass guitar. The fingerboard had become too thin for frets after sanding it a few times in the past, this neck is still perfectly usable without frets. I added a black 90’s Squier body with an 80’s Aria split-coil pickup.
It has become a smooth playing bass with flatwound strings and the recognizable precision bass sound.
The specifications after the ‘salvage’:
- Squier 90’s precision bass body, basswood
- Black bridge, black strapholders
- ‘turtoise shell’ pickguard
- Japanese Arai maple neck (1981).
- Rosewood fingerboard, smoothed and sprayed with clear lacquer.
- Black tuners, Tusq graph tech nut.
- Aria Pro II SLB split coil cartridge (1988).
- Potentiometers 250k, volume and tone (capacitor 0.22).
- Fender flatwound strings, 100 – 045.
